Quotes from our Chat:

“The idea of getting healthy can be a very difficult topic because we feel a lot of shame, condemnation, we fixate on appearances, really Food Triggers is a really kind book. I am in no place to judge anybody having been in that same place myself.”

“I went through a season of great change, great loss, I had a miscarriage, I started eating to manage some of my emotions. I loved the Lord but I also realized I wasn’t perfect. I had some areas of growth.”

“I looked to the future and thought, I have this little boy and his brothers, and if I don’t make some changes I don’t know that I can be the mom I want to be 10 years from now, or the grandma in 40 years. I was going to be in the nursing home, not on the cruise ship having a great time with my family.”

“I knew that God loved me unconditionally but that He does also call me to steward my temple well and to take care of my body… What I had to recognize was that I needed to deal with the emotional mismanagement, with the spiritual piece of this for myself so that it would be a long term change.”

“God has given me a picture of the life He wants for me down the road. Psalm 92 says ‘the righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a Cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God. They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green.’”

“If you want to grow in righteousness, stop turning to an empty vessel, this ice cream carton, and get right with the Lord so that you can really grow both spiritually and also get healthy physically.”

“Your why is what is going to initially motivate you, kick start you to make a decision. Keeping your why front and center, writing it down, re-visiting your why is going to help give you a focus for when the days get challenging. “

“We are not failures just because we struggle or started to run out of steam. The key is to not give up, to not quit. If we quit, if we are not consistent, if we give up on ourselves we’re missing out on the opportunity of a vibrant healthy life, for the rest of our lives. One where if we are healthy enough we can do Kingdom work that God might have us do, that we might not be able to do otherwise.”

“If we are on a diet and it’s all about the food, and then we ate something we said we weren’t going to eat…so why bother… This chatter in our head has this vicious cycle. It is not dwelling on what is true, or pure or lovely or of good report. This is a lifestyle, one meal is not going to erase my whole healthy lifestyle. This is something that I am, not just something I am doing to lose weight. This is who I am. I am a person who makes healthy choices.”
